White Rock North School Completes Makeover, Wins Award
White Rock North School has been awarded Yard of the Month for June by Lake Highlands North Homeowner Association, following a beautification program begun last year with the purchase of the adjacent vacant lot. The lot is now paved and landscaped and being used by teachers for expanded parking, freeing the existing parking lot for use by parents and visitors to the school.
In addition to the parking lot, with its new trees and flowered-bordered white fence, Mrs. Mary Adams, the school's founder and director, has enlisted the talents of Miguel del Valle to oversee the building of a massive natural cedar fence that traverses the entire length of the backside of the property. The fence effectively shields children on the playground and in the school from the construction and future traffic of the DART station which is scheduled to open in the fall.
With a nod toward the greening of the school, Mrs. Adams is also transforming the horse paddock and barn, once home to the school's mascot, Ginger, into the Children's Garden. This large garden is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Adams' husband and school co-founder, John Adams. In the garden children will learn to plant, grow, harvest and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as planting and growing flowers. An existing windmill and cistern will be used to water the garden, thereby conserving water.
The Children's Garden will echo the country atmosphere John Adams sought for the children in the school, featuring the buggy and wagon Ginger used to pull in neighborhood parades and special events.
The students will get their first opportunity to experience the Children's Garden when school starts in August.

White Rock Dance Program
We are gearing up for a new dance/tumbling year! Make sure you turn in your enrollment form into the front office to reserve your child's spot in dance/tumbling class. ALL students will have a placement class on Friday September 3rd. A final dance class list will be made with your child's class time and day by September 7th. Our classes do not conflict with swim!
